Summer Tubridy, founder of Onyx Interiors, is a Charlotte based interior designer, specializing in classic, timeless design – modern or traditional in inspiration for commercial and residential projects.

Growing up in Charleston, SC allowed Summer to discover all of the authentic southern flavors the charming city has to offer; from the architectural details of the historic mansions and pastel color palettes of Rainbow Row, to the sprawling plantations filled with botanical gardens and the pristine coastal waters that never grow old.

Summer left Charleston to attend the University of South Carolina where she received her degree in Biological and Behavioral Sciences. Soon after graduation, her innate passion for interior design tugged at her heart and she went on to pursue her Fine Arts degree in Interior Design at the Art Institute of Charleston. After graduating from the Art Institute with honors, Summer moved to Charlotte, NC to begin her design career with BB+M Architecture.

As an interior designer at BB+M Architecture, Summer immersed herself in the world of retail, multifamily and office interiors. During her time on the team, she had the opportunity to be involved in every phase of the design process from initial concepts and space planning, through preparation of contract documents and construction administration. Summer also devoted her time in generating innovative conceptual design packages and illustrating vision to various stakeholders through graphic presentation media such as rendered floor plans and elevations, 3D perspective renderings, and preliminary finish selections. Summer’s very first project with BB+M Architecture, the Sky Lounge interiors at the VUE, a high-rise apartment building in Charlotte, won the Design Works Award for best hospitality design.

While specializing in commercial interiors with BB+M, in her free time, Summer began to take on a few small residential projects to expand her portfolio of experience. Blessed with a number of repeat clients and referrals from her residential projects, Summer took the opportunity to start her own business and formed Onyx Interiors in 2015.

As she continues to evolve, Summer is pushing the creative envelope by adding new platforms to her business and designing innovative ways to inspire clients while working together to create a personalized story.
